Re: 97 P/a Hard Up Shifts

Could be a bad vacuum modulator or poor vacuum to it. More commonly the press. control solenoid in the trans could be stuck in the high position, a full trans scan will show any issues with that.

Re: 97 P/a Hard Up Shifts

I have a bit of a rough upshift from 3rd to 4th. It was extremely noticable when my transmission mount was broken, of course...every shift was harsh then. I got the mount fixed and it's almost gone, but it's still present every once in a while...especially when accelerating and I happen to let off of the gas about the time it goes 3-4.

I put the car in the shop to have a complete inspection last week (my extended warranty expired yesterday and I wanted to be sure that any issues were resolved w/ under warranty prior to expiration). The mechanic drove the car and said it was fine. He was aware of my complaint about the 3-4 shift, but felt there wasn't anything noticable enough to indicate a problem. He did not even recommend a transmission service .

1-2, 2-3 upshifts seem fine...only 3-4 is occasionally a problem.

Hope this helps.

Re: 97 P/a Hard Up Shifts

The labor is about 4-5 hours plus gaskets, fluid and an 80 part. Again, a scan is required to check this out.
