Intake Manifold Gasket 2000 Trooper

My wife's Trooper starting making that telltale whistling noise on Friday, 4/13/07; it got louder on Saturday so I decided to go ahead and replace the intake manifold gasket. It had done thisonce before back in February 2003; I took it to the dealer then because I had no idea what was going on and I didn't have the advantage of this forum. Anyway, the dealer told me what the casue was and then billed me around $400 to make the repair.

I made one mistake during the job; I removed the common chamber (pplenum) from the intake manifold. ..I didn't know any better and the repair maunal isn't very clear on this. As it turned out, that gasket was broken-perhaps I broke it in the removal process, I'll never know. I actually thought this was the intake gasket until I started looking at it more closely and calling around for a replacement gasket-I found a set at Advance Auto for about $20;but they told me that it calls for two. That's when I realized what I had done; so then I removed the intake manifold (which is directly below the common chamber) and found that both intake gaskets were cracked at opposite ends.

As I stated, I was able to get the intake gaskets from Advance, but the common gasket had to come from the dealer. I picked it up yesterday and finished the job. The whistling is gone and the engine seems to run more smoothly . If anyone wants some pointers on this job (a fairly easy DIY job); just send me a private message or reply to this post-don't wait too long though; my memory fades quickly .

Thanks.

are you the original owner? If so this work is covered by the 10yr 120k warranty.

Nope, but it used and it has over 150,000 miles.

Thanks for the reminder though.
