rear end question

recently swapped out my 4.3L L99 V8 in my 94 caprice classic with a Lt1 350. i want to change the rear end....should i try and find a rear to swap in or just get a ring and pinion set for my rear end, and what size gears should i get...i was thinking 3.73s or 4.11s, found a kit for both of those...kit is 250 bucks...rear end in it now is a 7.5 inch with 2.73s... would i face any computer problems? any help would be appreciated

Re: rear end question

It might be better to try to find an 8½" rear end with the gearing you want. A small rear is not as likely to survive as well as a larger axle under a heavier car.

Re: rear end question

If you go and get an 8.5" axle, you will need to get the driveshaft out of the donor car as well - the driveshaft needs to be 1" shorter.

Only if you don't care about fuel economy and have the engine built to run in the power band that this rear axle will give you.

The junkyards will be a great place to start.

Re: rear end question

3.42 is a good compromise ratio between fuel mileage and acceleration with a LT1 in the B-cars.
