What makes the best sound?

Hey guys! I just got a 97 3000GT SL with manual transmission and the first thing I wanted to do (after floor it, of course) was make it sound more aggressive. I took it to a shop around here where some of my friends work. I asked them what I could do that would add sound and be cheap. They said that they would just cut out the single pipe with the resonator and just put a straight piece of pipe on instead for free. They did and it did add some noise, but not enough for me. Before this car, I had a 99 firebird v6, and I had an old school glass pack called a Cherry Bomb put on it and it sounded just like a friggin v8 (just some advice to people looking for a new muffler). Now my 3000GT is in MUCH better condition, and very luxurious, and I wanna keep it that way so I dont want to make it sound like a monster or anything. And i'm not willing to go and get an entire exhaust system put on because quite frankly i'm pretty much broke. But i got my Cherry Bomb plus a chrome exhaust tip put on my firebird for $70 including labor, and I'm looking for something around that range. and I DON'T want it to have that pissant little sound that you hear on little honda accords w/ shitty glass packs, I want good full sound. Any suggestions? Ty in advance

Re: What makes the best sound?

1) Save up money
2) buy downpipe, high flow cat and cat-back that use the the same diameter piping
3) See step 1
4) if you have to do something now, replace cat with test pipe (note: this will fail emissions and you will be damned to ecological hell)

2old is on the money though. get rid of as much exhaust restrictions as possible will give the best note. hey, gutting your cat is completely free...so long as they dont put the sniffer to your tailpipe lol.

F&$king emissions...

Re: What makes the best sound?

1. Go to walmart and buy a glass packed cherry bomb.
2. Clamp onto your exhaust pipe.

Re: What makes the best sound?

i have a downpipe, testpipe, and smooth aftermarket intake pipe. it makes the exhaust sound VERY nice, but not obnoxiously loud or ricerish at all. i recently got some long tube headers, so i'll be selling my downpipe (3SX downpipe) very soon, if you're interested.

Re: What makes the best sound?

i have a stillen downpipe (my sig says 3sx, long story another time) which eliminates the front precat and the main cat and I had the rear precat gutted and I get compliments on how my car sounds every time i go to the track. its a good thing my car has the active exhaust still though because it is a little loud under regular driving with no main cat. with the exhaust in tour mode it is surprisingly very quiet even with no cats.
