Red face Improving my '98 Jetta GL

Hey, I have been thinking about upgrading my Jetta to get some more HP and acceleration out of it because it's like grinding teeth trying to get it up to speed on the highway. I was thinking about maybe a performance chip and a cold air intake. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Improving my '98 Jetta GL

It's not a very fast car to begin with but even 200 HP is very possible with this motor.

For intake, your best bet would be a K&N drop in filter. OR an Ebay intake sold for around 40 dollars which you should attatch to the end of your stock tubing as the way they instruct you to install it is quite stupid and not beneficial at all. Don't spend too much on an intake.

A chip is a nice thing to have. I have a chip WITH ECM that i will sell as a whole (so you do not have to do anything but pull your ECM and install the one I send you) If your interested.

If you want to make this car a little more fun to drive, you need a cam, chip, intake, exhaust and a good tune up should make you happy.
In all honesty, the only way to get any REAL powergains would be to go with some sort of forced induction.
A stage II turbo with turbo cams, straight pipe exhaust, good sized injectors and proper engine managment will put you near or at 200 to the crank..
At that point, you'll have to be a bit more carefull with the trans.
