front end
Hi, just picked up a 64 nova with a 350 in it and the front end seems to over/under steer. The guy I got it from has changed the steering box and I'm wondering what would cause this over/under steer condition. Any help will be appreciated.

Re: front end
Is it manual or power steering, was the box changed to a quick-ratio?
Oversteer and understeer are two separate conditions, one usually does not go with the other. Bob |

Re: front end
Its manual and the gear box looks to be stock. He, the seller, said that it has trouble keeping an alignment? I'm not sure what is going on with this thing. Thanks for the reply

Re: front end
If the box is loose, it can be adjusted, make sure you consult a manual first. Make sure it has the right lube in it too. If you get stuck for a reference, I have some old manuals here and I'd be glad to take a look and pass on anything that would help.

Re: front end
I don't think the box is loose. The guy says the car can't keep an alignment. I need to talk to him a bit more, but I think something else is going on and I'm wonder if its safe to drive the car at all. Thanks for your input

Re: front end
Have someone check the front end over before you do any serious driving. Rule out and loose or worn out parts. That front end is pretty basic so anything wrong will show up, however the upper control arm bushings are a little hard to inspect. On my old Novas, I used to take them out and replace the whole arm, at the time they were cheap from the dealer.
