Is this a factory remote? The dealer is the easiest. About $50. Some remotes have to be programed by the dealer with the service tool anyway.

Yep...I have a 97 and 01...Get it from a Dealer....they hook their scan tool up to the unit so it can accept the signals from the remote. $59 bucks for the remote...they might program it for free or charge you to do it...depends.

97-98 models are dealer program only.
93-96, and 99-01 have a customer program method.
