Question '98 GMC Suburban K2500, fuel problems

I have a Vortec 454 engine in my 1998 GMC Suburban. It dies frequently when driving. The fuel pump and relay was replaced a week before I started having this problem, and it was working great. After it dies, it is able to start back up instantly. I just replaced the throttle position sensor, and am still having the same problem. I had a mechanic tell me it might be an electrical problem turning the fuel pump off. I checked the female connectors to the fuel pump and they are not burnt. Do you know what the problem is? Please and Thanks. Ted

First check fuel pressure.
It should maintain 55/62 lbs of pressure.
How about codes and or check engine lights?
What was the problem or code on tps sensor?
What is the mileage and tune up history?

Re: '98 GMC Suburban K2500, fuel problems

There are 154k miles on it. New plugs at 150k. I got a P0172 code on my OBD2 code reader. I never really had any problems until the last two weeks. I thought that I was out of gas - even though it showed 1/4 tank of gas. Ended up towing it home. Replaced the fuel pump with an AC-Delco MU-152 unit. A new fuel pump relay and throttle position sensor. I filled it up and it worked great until the tank got low. Thanks for your help and suggestions ....this is an awesome forum. Ted

Make sure it is not out of gas.
Add 5 gallon and see what it does.
A good rule is never run it below a 1/4 tank of fuel.
