Car Stalls When letting sit for a While.
So today i drove around alot, like 70miles or so.....then parked the car at my house. Then about 30min later i decided to go to Wawa to get something to eat and when i went out to the car to start it, i turned the Key the engine started, rpms went to about 1000 then dropped back to zero immediatly and the car turned off. did it a few times and it kept stalling. So i pushed the pedal in a little bit and turned the key and it fired up and stayed on. But later that day like 20min ago i went the mall and let it sit, then came back out and it did the same thing, i had to hold the pedal in. Whats the problem? not getting fuel? or MAF sensor not working right. I just had the Intake Manifold Gaskets changed because of the coolent leak. BRand New Double Platinum PLgus also. Battery is fine and starter is fine. The Car is a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 V6

Re: Car Stalls When letting sit for a While.
To start the best thing to do is check fuel pressure to make sure it is in specs. On the 3.1L engine you can do that at the rear fuel rail passenger side at the Schrader valve.

Re: Car Stalls When letting sit for a While.
hey i had the exact same problem. i have 95 se 3.1L> what happens is your fuel pump stays spinning until you turn the car off. it wont run until it hs cooled off> this is your most likely problem if your car has never cut off while driving.

Re: Car Stalls When letting sit for a While.
well it stopped stalling after my dad sucked some "gunk" out of the Throttle body and i put a new Fuel Filter on, plus ran injector cleaner/fuel system cleaner through the engine, runs great now. Plus changed the Oil, ALSO, when it came back from the shot the MAF and Air intake was not attached fully to the Air Filter Box, that could have been a slight part of the problem, but mostly i think it was the Gunk and the Fuel Filter

Re: Car Stalls When letting sit for a While.
After work today I got exactly the same problem as GaryFenza.
the engine started, rpms went to about 1000 then dropped back to zero immediatly and the car turned off, did it a few times and it kept stalling. I don't really know what is the problem here Could it be my MAF sendor is defect or my EGR valve that is stuck ? If so , how and where are locate those parts ? can it be clean? Should I change my Gas Filter ? I'm really confuse can somone help me out here !! I hope you guys can put me in the right path in order to solve this problem Thanks in advance Marco Venditi Montreal , QC, Canada |

Re: Car Stalls When letting sit for a While.
Hey...I'm experiencing the same kind of problems. I have difficulty starting the car at times. I believe it could be my fuel injector being clog or something because when the car is hard to start sometimes I tap on gas pedal a little and the car starts up. Or sometimes the car shuts off while driving or when I fill up the gas tank. Staff at Advance Auto parts told me it could be my throttle sensor or DEV valve next to the throttle sensor. What should I do? I need some suggestions.
