93 voyager trans identification

hello everyone! My friend brougt to me his 93 plymouth voyager with 140k miles and the 2.5L engine. He wanted me to replace his transaxle with another one he had already bought from a junk yard! the first transaxle had a speedometer cable which the original didnt have. It turned out to be defective. then he brought another one which also had a speedometer cable and did not have a lock-up solenoid connector! so i put it on nothing happens! The car starts and the level is to where it is supposed to be, all the connectors a re plugged and the linkage is where it suppossed to be (it can only go one way). the car just revs but doesnt move. reverse dont work either.

Im thinking that it is a defective trans or justnot the right trans. The original had the numbers 424-B cast on the bell housing. The new one has the numbers 424-18-A on it! can anyone tell me if these are two different trans that cannot be interchanged. also if the trans for the 6cyl is the same as the ones for the 4cyl?

Re: 93 voyager trans identification

Not being able to hook up the lockup solenoid wouldn't cause it to do nothing. Also later Caravans had a electronic speedometer, replacing the mechanical ones. I would say you're just buying bad transmissions, as this is the primary reason these vans get junked. Are you sure you are able to connect all available connectors? Later transmissions were also computer controlled, although I'm not sure this makes a difference to you.

Re: 93 voyager trans identification

well, another bad transmission. this is the third trans i put on this van. Im tired and frustated! this trans does not shift into N,R, or P. it is stuck in what seems to be D or 2nd. I lowered the trans pan to check for any irregularities and found little pieces of something red. like a plastic connector or something that either fell into the trans pan or broke off inside of it! idn what to do now. the guy said to try to fix it and if we can't fix it then hes gona bring the old one back to swap parts with the one he bought. He can't get a refund on the trans, only exchange. im going to tell him if we can't fix it then he can take that trans back to the junk yard and get me a trans for my mustang. since he wont get a refund! and i wont charge him for all the labor!
