I bought a 99 3.8 intake manifold and throttle body to swap the t.b. on my 96 3.3. I noticed that the manifolds seem almost the same. The 3.8 has a larger phlenum, I wondered if anyone has swapped a 3.8 intake on a 3.3?
I did the t.b. swap last night, and made a nice peppy change, has bunches of get up and go now! I thought more volume would help even more. |

Re: Intake manifold swap
Well I did the swap yesterday afternoon. I swapped the upper intake manifold(plenum) only, the lowers were the same. Wasnt too bad of a job, tight space to work but pretty straight foward. Only problem was every little plastic vac line broke off, but I had some small rubber line to fix them with. Did a plug change while I had the plenum off..easiest one ever, just reach straight across, no contortions.
The end result was well worth it, the van is like a new vechile, it just goes! Runs strong and no more lag while carrying a load, even up hills..had to go get 6 bags of mortar mix at 80 lbs each. Still fine tuning the idle etc, but Im very pleased with the end result. I feel like I have a sport van now!

Re: Intake manifold swap
Great job! Glad to hear it helped.
Tell me, what did it take to remove/replace the intake plenum? I need to replace the plugs on my 3.8 and don't know how to go about it. |
