Car dies when put into gear

I have a feeling this is cause by leaking capacitors in the ECU, dont have time to cheak tonight though. Is there anything else it could really be? When I am in park and go into D the car engines just dies, doesnt surge, just dies. If I rev up then put it into gear its fine. It seems to be that when its IN gear its okay, any ideas?
