What should a 67 400 be afraid of?
I might be getting my old man's 1967 Firebird 400 convertible soon. It has long tube headers, dual exhaust, and glass pack mufflers. It has a hotter cam than stock, and bigger valves which suggests H.O., allthough it wasn't supposedly an option in 67, but we are sure that the engine is the original. Just curious to what cars might be able to beat me from a stoplight. Would an Evo or a modded Civic be a problem for me?
Also, it has a Turbo 400 behind it, with a shift kit possibly being in the future.

Re: What should a 67 400 be afraid of?
Civics aren't a problem for anyone. Evos lanch like beasts.
if you want to check the engine's the original check the serial numbers. have you had it on a dyno to see how much it's making? that engine should be making 425-450bhp at the fly.

There are alot of little rockets around that might surprise you. Just don't be a jackass and talk crap and risk looking like an idiot if you get raped. lol

Yeah, power means nothing if it weighs a lot. Put it on a diet.

Re: What should a 67 400 be afraid of?
Just to point out...the first gen F bodies were the lightest ones made. Being a convertable it will be a little heavier than a hardtop but still lighter than the 2nd, 3rd & 4th gens.
A nice upgrade would be a PST poly front end and rearend kit along with their body bushing kit. |

Re: What should a 67 400 be afraid of?
You should definitely hold onto an original 67 400 Bird. If the motor is original it will have 2.11/1.77 valves. All pontiac heads that were made after 66 and were for 4 barrell/HO/Ram Air applications had them. Only low-po motors got small valves. The correct heads would be cast number "670". This can be seen on either head above the center exhaust ports. Usually this area has no paint on it as it gets very hot with the ports being siamesed. The factory hp rating was 335. With headers and a mild cam I would think 360-375 is accurate. You will surprise a lot of cars depending on the rear gear. Probably 3.08 but could be as low as 3.55. Pontiacs are very torquey. As far as handling: some sway bars, Koni shocks and poly bushings work wonders. Keep the car nice and don't trash it. It is very desirable.

Re: What should a 67 400 be afraid of?
Oh, i won't trash it, that's what my 89 is for. I'm going to restore it and use it for show. It won't quite be a DD, but it will get some use. Mainly in the summer when i feel like going for a cruise with the top down. I still remember those from when i was younger and my dad would drive. Them were the good old days.
