97 Riviera won't start until after 3 minutes
When I insert the key into the ignition, sometimes my car won't start up until I try again after 3 minutes, that is when a security light turns off. This started to happen more often lately, every time the security light turns on, I have to wait for 3 min, and sometimes this cycle repeats itself a second and third time. I'm not sure if this has to do with the key. Anyone familiar with this problem, please give me your input. This problem is making me arrive late to work every morning. Thank you.

Re: 97 Riviera won't start until after 3 minutes
its the pass II key system. this happens if you incert the wrong key into the ignition and try to start the car. so, either your ignition cylander is going bad, the key is getting too worn out or you have the wrong key chip (resistor) if its a secondary key.
have you tried using another key? maybe one that is sharper? next step is to make sure there is no dirt in the ign. take a can of air and blow it out. if neither of those steps work then it is likely the ign cyl. or pass II failing. |
