Is This a good deal?

Ok, I'm really just looking for some support on the deal I've just accepted. I think it's a good idea (and have already agreed to it), but I just want to make sure it's worth it.

My car, has just blown it's second trans in a year. I just figured out why and have come to the conclusion that my engine block is no good either. Now my motor runs fine, but the transmission will eat clutches and bellhousings. This is something related to the way it bolts to my block (see problem diagnosis: "Not The Update I was hoping to have"). So, I went to the shop last night and was talking to my boys. I told them how close I was to having the car back together, and how it had all turned around in about 15 seconds.

One of the guys looked at me and said, "Give me your rims..."
I was like, "what?"
He said, "Give me your rims, and $200... and I'll give you my Talon."
Now his is an ATX and AWD (1g). Right now, it's been sitting, and was our parts car for awhile. Though he took the heads off of it and built his other Talon and sold it. So this one has been sitting. The car right now, is ready to go, minus the heads and a few interior pieces. The car had been wrecked in the front (minor, the lower radiator mounts were pushed in a little). Though I know someone who will cut my front end and put on this car for $600.

"I don't know man,..." I said
He cut me off with, "You see all of that over there?" pointed at the wall, which was full of DSM parts. "I'll give it to you, all of it." he continued.

I told him to let me think about it.

After a little contemplating and him throwing in a 50-trim to sweeten the deal, I agreed to do it.

Now, the deal is: I give him my rims (I bought off of him last year, $400) and $200, and he gives me the AWD TSI, and a crapload of parts.

Parts included:
Rebuilt Garret T3 50-trim
2 intake manifolds
3 exhaust manifolds
2-3 MAFs(1G)
1-2G MAF
3" AWD exhaust
SMICs(stock)
390's
450's (1 set)
aftermarket steering wheel
set of stock rims from Omni GLHS (they were sitting in shop)
New set of heads (when they are finished being put together)

and I'm certain there's more, I just can't remember any more.

He's keeping the Evo FMIC, and possibly the piping
I know most of his stuff is new or rebuilt. I bought the ignition and ECM off of him earlier this year.

So how do you guys think I'm making out?

(I mean, even if I have to sell parts off my Talon, I'll at least break even with the $600 in this deal)He was trying to sell the whole shell (not including extra parts) for $900.

Why would you have someone cut and chop the front end of two cars for $600? I know people do it, but to me it seems like a waste of time and money. Just take the good parts and put them in the car that isn't all smashed up, and save yourself the $600.

Ah, you don't understand... my Talon is a FWD(no tunnel, PITA AWD conversion)... the AWD is messed up enough in the fron that I'd have to get $400+ in body work to make it legal (much less look good)... chopping my front end on the AWD seems the easiest, or at least the most cost effective

I guess I didn't even take into consideration that your current one is FWD and the other is AWD. Although that makes it seem more worth it, it'd probably be easier to just fix the parts that are bent than to chop the whole front end off the car. Trust me, I work with this shit alllll the time.

I'm not completely sure... I'll look into it.. and post some pics... To be honest, I haven't looked at the car too closely, I do know the guys who used to drive it, and it was running 8.9's back in the day... I'll look at the bent/broken parts closer and get back to ya on what I think...

Shit, I'd love nothing more than to have two Talons... but I still have to replace the block in the FWD... so either way, I'm a ways off from running one

Ok, I gave him the rims last night... Got My talon moved to my house. S'posed to pick up the AWD Saturday.
I don't really think it will be a good idea to try and pull the AWD radiator supports. I looked yesterday, and somebody already did a shitty welding job to put the front end back on. The car is straight right at the strut towers, and I was adivsed to cut right in front of them. Their reasoning was to keep the factory front suspension and not have to worry a/b angles and alignment issues.
My FWD has a perfect front end.
My question is, how hard is it to do the AWD swap on the FWD Talon (since I have a complete parts car)? Would it be a better idea to chop two cars together or just scrap one as a parts car and swap to the other?

If you could post pictures of the damage to the AWD talon we could advise you better

Well, I didn't get the car like I thought I was going to... not this weekend anyway... my rollback driver wouldn't answer his phone... I have another driver lined up though...
So, I didn't get pics either... I did get a Viper alarm for the BMW though...

I looked a little more at the damage, and I don't think it'll be able to be pulled out...


The car is an auto for now. Depending on how much hp I think I can get away with and the fun factor, I might swap to MT (I really want to, but money is the killer for now).
^with lots of hp, and for track only cars, ATX is better... they can be faster...

Though this will be a track car, it will also be street legal, and I will be taking it to meets and the local hangouts... so, ultimately it will be a street/strip car.

Many track cars have auto trannys...more consistent times.

And a hell of a lot less fun. I would trade some 1/4 time and consistency for having a fun car to drive.
