Just a curiosity question

Hey guys, I was watching Swordfish the other day and thought of this when H. Jackman was driving the TVR...what is the shift pattern on a right hand drive car...is first gear still up and left, or is it up and right. I think it would make more sense if it were up and right because it would be the exact opposite of a left hand drive car. I looked around on google and wikipedia and couldnt find an answer (not gonna lie, I didnt look for more than 10 minutes) and just curious if anyone here might know.

Skylines are same pattern as LHD. Most likley because you always see numbers acending left to right, even in languages that read right to left.

Re: Just a curiosity question

I kinda thought that was the case, but still think it's very weird. I find it much easier to shift from 1, 2, 3, 4, but 5th gear always seems a little harder than the rest to get into because it seems so much farther away, but usually doesnt matter how fast you shift into it because its a cruiser gear. I think I would have a hard time shifting quick from 1-2 if I had to use my left hand and always start out farthest away from my body...idk, maybe it's just me.

Re: Just a curiosity question

i'd have it arranged so that first was on the right if i drove on the right. just so my dislexsic? self could live like that.

but if you think about it. if first was on the other side, how would JDM engines/transmissions work?? the 1-2 would be on the other side when you swapped it if japanese market trans's were designed to work that way. so, basically it would HAVE to be standard american way.
