Light problem...any imput helpful

Alright, so i get polled over 2 days ago at night for not having my running lights working....thankfully no ticket...

well the fuse blew for some reason and i tried today to figure out what was wrong, soo im thinkin maybe my trailer hitch box came undone and is grounding out a wire....nope... not that...pulled bulbs and checked them, all where good....it takes a 10 amp fuse so i tried bigger and went with a 12,15,20 then 30....all poped (except the 30) within 2 secs of the lights being on....when i turn on the lights all work but no running lights...when i press the break they turn on...my hazards turn on as well and so do my reverse light when i select all of them...... when i put the 30 in the low end of the top bulb(you know the top bulb that has a high and low light in it like a headlight bulb)lit up a little....i didnt want to run it for more than a few secs....anyways any ideas would help

thx
Rob

Re: Light problem...any imput helpful

I wrote a post about using a circuit breaker for this. I use to be a mechanic...so I have one. You hook it up and just run around the outside of the truck until you can see the corner that is malfunctioning. It was an old tool that I got off of the Snap-On truck.

Note: it is not the bulbs that are grounding...it is the wiring to that bulb.

Re: Light problem...any imput helpful

If your "Running Lights" don't work, turn on your Headlights. That is legal.

In fact, don't use your running Lights at all. They BLIND oncoming drivers and can cause accidents. I know, I was in one. What many people don't know is that Running lights are not mandated by and states of federal government. The law says Headlights, which include the side marker and tail lights. Having all the lights on makes sense on a cloudy or rainy day.

Also, most Running lights use the HIGH BEAM at a slightly reduced voltage. Point a flashlight in someone's eyes that is 1/2 worn out and it will blind them. Get my point?

Thanks, Steve

Re: Light problem...any imput helpful

I think PJXJ is talking about a different thing, not the DRL that you see on a Toyota or GM. Jeep XJs only came with those in Canada, where it is required.

I think he means the side markers and tails. Correct me if I'm wrong here, ProjectXJ...

EDIT: see my recent post about diagrams at:
