2000 express 1 ton vibration

i have a 2000, 3500 express and between 65-75 it has a bad vibration i have bought brand new tires from goodyear, new drums and a new axle shaft and didnt help any i took it to a specialist and they said it could be the wheel bearing. would that make it shake that bad its tough to drive it on the highway. its the passenger side that has the vibration.

Swap your tires around and see what changes. Most likely cause is an out of balance tire, bad tire, bent rim etc.

Sometimes, it can shake like that if the parking brake cable has been adjusted too tight. I'm not a professional, but I had it happen to me once on the highway. I thought the wheels were going to fall off.

A wheel bearing that bad would be noticeable if you jack up and spin the wheels in both directions. Usually it will make noise also. Have you considered a bad U joint?

Re: 2000 express 1 ton vibration

A vibration or shake in the 65-75 MPH range almost always points to tire and wheel out of balance /bad slipped tire belt or bent wheel.

Have another repair shop check out the tires for balance and being bad.
Or swap a known good set of tires and wheels on it.

Re: 2000 express 1 ton vibration

ok went to chevy they basically charged me 90.00 for nothing they said the rear end needs to be rebuilt which would cost 2500.00 and the exhaust was comin apart so that was 1800.00 and they didnt figure out what was shaking still. i had another shop look at it and they said chevy never looked at the rear end the cover was never touched. i put new shocks and rear shoes on it and it still shakes i guess it has to be the wheel bearings.

Re: 2000 express 1 ton vibration

Rear ends do not shake.
Jack it up and put stands under rear axle and run it up to 65 MPH and see if it has and shake then remove tires and wheels and run it up to 65 MPH.
If it still shakes check for drive shaft shake.
If a two piece drive shaft make sure the U joints are in time.
Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

Re: 2000 express 1 ton vibration

alright i put my van in the shop today, took it to a drivetrain specialist and i guess i spun a bearing in the rear end. he told me it might not fix the shake but it could. 800.00 later and a new rear end still shaking like crazy what does it have to do to be considered as a lemon. this has been a nightmare for me i have almost what i paid for it total in just maintance since ive owned it which is less then 2 years. i dont know what else to do im puzzled.

Re: 2000 express 1 ton vibration

Thanks for posting back the fix and how it went.
Glad you fund the problem.
Sounds
I take it that new drums takes care of the lemon law.
Was the drums replaced before or the ones that came on it?
