Oil Cooler
Hey guys I am in the middle of this 6 bolt swap and I have the Oil Filter housing for the 6 bolt but it doesnt have an oil cooler on it. Does anyone know if the one off of my 2G will work?
If not I am looking at external oil coolers. Do I have to use one of those things that go between the filter and the housing or is there a way to run lines right off of the housing itself to the oil cooler and then back. I know that sounds confusing but I will post pics when I can to try and elaborate more on that part.

Re: Oil Cooler
You mean you have the correct oil filter housing to accomadate an external oil cooler but you would rather use the 2g line that just goes out and to the front and back? If so, then possibly... You need the proper fittings to adapt it to the oil filter housing and you can do that. If not, then I'm confused. lol

Re: Oil Cooler
Those external oil coolers are not good if it gets really cold by you. Although you're in Cali right? Nevermind then. But I believe the quickest way to do that (and probably the best) is with one of those sandwich adaptors.

Re: Oil Cooler
Thats right, those are for the oil cooler... You can have a NPT fitting that adapts to AN line and then you can connect that to the 2g cooler lines if you put the correct AN fitting off the 2g cooler lines also... Why wouldn't you just run a normal oil cooler though?

Re: Oil Cooler
Ok cool...I am just going to run an external one...not sure where to put it yet...I wanted to put it on the drivers side right next to where the filter is and have a similar setup to how the smic is on the other side but I dont know is there is enough room there...

Re: Oil Cooler
Oh theres a good bit of room there if you mount it right. I'm sure I'll have plenty of pictures of how/where I'm mounting mine on there.

Re: Oil Cooler
Well I haven't decided yet which one to get... The easiest and cheapest route would be for me to go with this one...
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku Of course, I have really been thinking about this one. It costs more but it will keep things running a lot cooler. Cooler fluids = less wear and tear on internals... Also its slightly smaller, so it'll be easier to mount. So I'm trying to decide if I should invest this little bit of extra money now to better prolong the life of my motor... http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Re: Oil Cooler

Re: Oil Cooler
Well I would rather get the one with the fan now...cause I know that if I dont then I will have to buy a fan later or a whole new oil cooler...Plus taking my car out on Buttonwillow's track when it is like 100 degrees outside...I should get the best cooler I can...

Re: Oil Cooler
im in the same boat as NOFX here, except my 6 bolt swap is not by choice. im just trying to get some clarification though. it is more than obvious that my oil filter housing will not fit on a 6 bolt, since mine is a 97 gsx engine. the oil cooler on the 7 bolt housing seperates though. is there any kind of bolt on adapter to make it work? is an external oil cooler the only alternative? if so where are the current cooling lines to the turbo supposed to go?

Re: Oil Cooler
Quote:
As far as coolant lines for the turbos go. You can block any of those lines off with a bolt so you don't have to use them.
