need help

THE REASON I CANT CHECK THIS MYSELF IS BECAUSE I HAVENT BOUGHT THE CAR YET!! The 1999 mitsubishi eclipse gs has around 140 horsepower. About what top speed does it have? I need to know before i buy the car.

Ive checked all over the internet and i cant find this info anywhere. This is my first car and i am 16 so i need to know.

first of all ,in personnal opinion, eclipse is overrated!!! second, if youre 16 you cant handle it!! and have you ever thought about checking out local ads and looking at an actual speedometer?

The speedometer says 160 which it obviously is not. Speedometer doesnt always tell the speed. Why wouldnt i be able to handle it?

Can someone just tell me what the top speed is close to or atleat tell me what they have gotten theirs up to(if you have one) Jesus tapdancing christ!

i got mine up to about 127, but with a cai and exhaust. but do me a favor and dont push it. you need calm it down, speeding tickets are a bitch, dont take the chance, keep your can stock for a while so you can get used to it, then GRADUALLY tune it for more performance. trust me im 16 to, i already lost one of my friends cause he wanted to be stupid and speed and show off when ever he could.

Thanks. They just passes the new law so if i get a moving violation i have to drive with a parent for 6 more months. ONe more thing, should i really put on performance parts if it is an automatic??

What is cai and does and exhaust make it faster?

Whoa buddy, I think you need to think a little more about getting a car other than "how fast it goes." The car governs at ~130, but it would take so long to get to that point it wouldn't even be worth it to try get there. The GS isn't by any means a "fast car", they just look nice. If you want a fast Eclipse, get a GST/GSX. On another note, a CAI is a Cold Air Intake, and paired with an exhaust it will give it maybe ~5hp which probably isn't even noticeable.

Good. Go take your 1986 Chevy Silverado with a 350, put some headers on it, maybe a glasspack or 2, and go cruise with all your " redneck Chevy boys."

When I had my N/A eclipse it topped out at around 120 or so...If you are looking for something fast that is definitely not the way to go...but I loved mine...it was a great first car...it was reliable, and it looked good....

newguy2007, you had one thread locked on this exact subject before. Apparently you are unfamilar with the way forums work, but if your thread gets locked it needs to stay that way. If you make another you will get a vacation. No, you do not need to know the top speed and I doubt someone will tell you mostly because who cares? When are you really going to need to know whether it goes 95, 150, or 4000 miles per hour? Never! And in attempting to find out you are risking killing yourself and innocent bystanders. As fun as fast cars are, you dont need one before you have substantial driving time behind a wheel. Believe me (and I am sure pretty much everyone will back me up on this) but you really dont know what you are doing when you first start driving. Sure you can get from point A to point B, but you just need some seat time (and maturity) before you are really ready for a remotely fast car.

chevy momma, settle down. Local ads wont tell jack shit about speed nor will a speedometer. Case in point: my Cavalier's speedo says 110 but down hill and with the wind shes lucky to get into the 80's.

Everyone else, just take a damn chill pill. Sheesh, I better not see another one of these threads pop up again anytime soon....
