transmission

looking to change the tranny fluid and tranny filter on my 2001 explorer. it has a 4.0L SOHC engine with an automatic trans. i dont know how much fluid it takes???

If you are dropping the pan and changing the filter, you will need 4 quarts of fluid. Read the Owner's Manual to see what fluid it takes.

mercon type v. it said in the maual for 10 quarts on 5R55E tranny and i thought it was a bit much. but yes i am dropping the pan and changing the filter.

10 quarts is probably if the transmission is completely dry. If you just drop the pan and filter, you are not draining the torque converter, etc., so that's why the quantity is lower if you only drop the pan.
