Re: McLaren F1 GTR Driving Ambition De Luxe Edition

Just how much better is this edition over the standard one to make it worth that price apart from the rarity value?
Does it really contain so much more information?

I'd personally advise any prospective buyer of this deluxe edition to cough-up the extra £65 and elect to buy direct from McLaren cars (www.mclarenautomotive.com) for £575 and accept the invitation to collect and view a F1 roadcar in person !

As an aside, the ebay seller is based in Italy, and I'd estimate the carriage costs for this weighty volume to be ~ £50 to mainland Europe and even more worldwide; he's also made an error in the listing as volumes #100 -999 were only covered in Nubuck leather and NOT the Connolly hide that the owners' editions #1-100 were !

I bought my copy from Mclaren and it came complete with McLaren Cars invoice and even a pair of white cotton gloves (for use when reading the book !).

Did you go to pick it up from Woking? If so have you got pics from the visit?

Sorry to disappoint you, but it was at the time of the Genesis move and I was advised (by a friend who worked at McLaren) that there was little to see at the time; I therefore elected to have the book delivered by a courier, although I'm sorely-tempted by the limited-edition version that's still available commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Le Mans win, since it too qualifies for the F1 experience as part of the personal collection offer !

Re: McLaren F1 GTR Driving Ambition De Luxe Edition

A person who is in close contact with an F1 has emailed me, as well as other posts i've replied to, with info stating the best version of DA to get your hands on is the Le Mans edition. The 'owners' edition just has a fancy cover and nothing extra in it, whereas the Le Mans edition has extra stuff that came with it and came in smaller numbers for increased rarity (just like the LM's) although the text is the same in all 3 versions (standard, owners and Le Mans)

I concur, although it's a difficult thing to justify and extra £250 for an ashtray, pin badge and art print EVEN if it's a limited edition of only 59 !

I'd advise anyone interested, to view the purchase of the (cheaper) deluxe limited edition as the key to visiting the McLaren and seeing an F1 in the flesh, thus making the investment in the book give a double return.

I appreciate this doesn't necessarily help those F1 enthusiasts (based outside UK or able to fly in to visit and collect) who can't take advantage of this invitation from McLaren, but I view this thread as an opportunity to share advice as well as pure technical information

I agree BentleyBoyz. It's always possible today ? We can visit the MTC too ? How longer is the visit ?
