yeah everyone ive seen twists off. i tried twisting mine off a while ago and it was sooo tight i thought i was going to break it taking it off. I decided to leave it cause i wasnt replacing it anyways. A few days later it twisted off just fine. It might be a little tight, but it should twist off.

I have an 02 EX also. Here is how you do it.

1. Take your index finger and thumb.

2. Place it around the silver ring just below the shift knob

3. Twist to the left

4. Then the shift boot will slide down.

5. Twist the shift knob to the left until it unscrews all of the way off

6. Reverse instructions once new knob is on.

It was tough to me because I was afraid that I was gonna break something. I had to look at a DIY from 7thgencivic.com to figure it out. I've never removed a shifter knob before. I think my Cold Air Intake is the easiest mod.......it came with directions........LOL
