fuel pump?

'90 LeSabre stalls dependent on how much gas is in the tank. Recently when tank was half full or less the car would stall when idling/decelerating (slowing for cornering or stop lights). Starts up most times, occasionally I have to put gas all the way to the floor to get it started. Now the problem is starting with a bit more than 1/2 tank of gas. I'm wondering if this is a sign of the fuel pump going south or if there are other problems I should be concerned with.

Thanks for your help!
Stalling in SD.

Re: fuel pump?

You know, my car started at below a half tank and then it started all the time. Like right now my tank is full and I still have a stalling and hesitation. I have been trouble shooting and replacing parts for the same problem for about 4 or 5 weeks now. If you find out what's wrong with your let us know, because I cant keep spending money to fix a car that I feel may have no help. But before you start replacing things without knowing, have your codes read.

mine showed no codes, but I am replacing my O2 sensor later on this evening, if that fixes it, I'll be sure to let you know.

Re: fuel pump?

If you haven't done so already, try replacing the fuel filter first. It's a lot cheaper if you're a do-it-yourselfer (about 10 bucks for the filter) your current one may be clogged.

Re: fuel pump?

My 93 acting a lot like this for a long time. One mechanic told me there is a baffel inside the tank that breaks and when it does the fuel moves away from the pickup to fast. I found it was cheaper to keep a full tank that it was to replace it. That has helped but I still have the problem when the temp is above 75 degrees and I drive it for something over 20 minutes so heat has something to do with my problem. So I may have two problems. I did replace fuel pump with one from a national parts store not NAPA or GM still have the problem. I did read on another thread that the fuel regulator fixed a similar problem. Bottom line I'm still looking for the gremilin.......and its been a ongoing problem for over three years for me. Its real frustrating
