Question Key doesn't turn all the way back.

Sometimes when I turn my key off it doesn't go back all the way. The only way for it to go all the way back is when I flick the prindle switch that is under my shifter. What is a permanent fix that I could do?

Re: Key doesn't turn all the way back.

Hello, tiffannyalero

Remove the shifter knob (pull one clip on the back of knob towards radio)
and use a non-conductive lubricant in between the white plastic actuator and the shifter shaft. Test to make sure that if you push the actuator down, it returns to the full out position.

If this does not work, you may have to remove the console and find out why the actuator is getting stuck in a lower position, which is what is keeping you from removing the key.

Hope this helps

Re: Key doesn't turn all the way back.

Hi ,
we had this problem with our '02. Sometimes the you could not get the key out, and sometimes you could not get it to turn on. Turns out there was a pen in behind the floor console preventing the gear selector from going all the way into park at times, which lead to the key locking. Maybe when you play with the selector you are actually pushing it 'forward' a bit. You may want to check behind the console.
