Question turn signal / brake light problem

I have a 2001 Chevy Blazer 4x4. My right turn signal quit working so we changed the bulbs. Then shortly after the brake lights starting sticking after you applied the brakes. The only way to stop the brake lights from sticking was to take out the turn signal fuse. Now my turn signals don't work of course but when I hold my foot on the brake pedal the left turn signal will work (without the fuse even being in) As soon as I put the fuse back in the brake lights come on and don't go out until I pull the fuse back out for the turn signals. When the fuse is in the left turn signal works and the right does not, the light comes on but does not blink. All bulbs have been checked and are good. All sockets for the bulbs have been checked and are good. Someone told me they think that it would have to be the turn signal switch that needs to be replaced. Wanted some other opinions on this to make sure. If this is the case do I have to take the steeling column out to changes this or simply remove the plastic on top and below the steerling wheel?

Re: turn signal / brake light problem

Did you put the same bulbs back in that came out.
Is the 4 way flasher button stuck on?
Do you have a trailer hitch plug on it?
Pull the plastic cover and remove the switch and check brake switch input.
If it is working good then check the switch operation out.

Re: turn signal / brake light problem

Call the dealer with your VIN as the 00-01 had a recall on the harzard switch and they simply pull the button out, clean the contacts, and insert a new one all in about 15 min and its free. Harzard/flashers on same circuit as the brake lights and they would quit but top/third brake light still worked - thats the fix and its free.

I will double check the bulbs out tonite, but pretty sure the right ones were put back in. The 4way flasher is not stuck. Yes I have a trailer hitch plug on it. We have temp. unhooked the trailer hitch at this time while we were trouble shooting this problem.

Re: turn signal / brake light problem

Check brake light switch for sticking on.
When brake pedal is pushed down
The white wire from brake light switch feeds 12 volts to turns signal switch for brake lights.
If it is good.
Also time to check for brake light signal into and out of turn signal switch.
Did you check with the dealer on the recall?
The brake light 12 volt feed to turn signal is the white wire.
