Bearing Issues/Engine Rebuild

I just got my block back from the shop. Cam Bearings are installed, and I can see that one of them has a nick in it. Also, when i took my main/rod bearings out of the box, one of the mains was nicked, and one of the rod bearings is scratched. I had my crank turned down .010, but there are still rust pits in it. Needless to say, i am not happy with my supposedly respected engine shop. My question is, how critical are each of these issues and what am I entitled to? New bearings? Another crank grind?

Re: Bearing Issues/Engine Rebuild

bearings are way softer than cam/crank journals. The only thing you need to be careful of, is that there is no raised areas on the bearings. Small nicks and divots will have no effect on the oiling system

But....if you have doubts in your machine shops work, you might want to double check your clearances....which is far more crucial

Re: Bearing Issues/Engine Rebuild

The main bearing in question is the 3rd from the front. The nick is going to be a problem; it has raised the surrounding surface much like a knurl would. This bearing is also too narrow to slide onto the block/cap by about .050. Anyway, I started w/a 79 TA w/a 301 4-speed. It's in the bodyshop now, and i'm trying to get this 400 rolling so that i can drop it in after the paint is done. Hopefully i can still enjoy some of the summer. Thanks for you info, i'm sure i will need much more.
