1994 Caprice Wagon, LT1.
During light to moderate acceleration car runs absolutely perfectly. When I accelerate more than moderately the car takes off like it should but then the engine cuts out repeatedly for a second or so. Those are violent jolts and very disturbing. Anyone have a clue? I just replaced fuel and air filters. |

Re: Engine misses
Weak spark energy can cause misfire under heavier load. That can be due to worn plugs, failing wires, a failing coil, distributor, or connection problems.
Scanning the PCM while driving can also reveal weak spark or lean fuel mixture. |

Re: Engine misses
The "Opti", or Optispark distributor is what fires the plugs. On the LT1/L99, this is at the front of the engine and is driven from the cam. It, in turn, drives the water pump.
If the water pump leaks, this can spell doom for the Optispark unit.
