fuel pump question

Hey guys. I spent about 4 hours yesterday replacing the fuel pump on my 2000 Silverado. I went with taking the bed off. It seemed to be the way to go. I once dropped the tank on an '89 and that was a pain. I bought the pump from a Chevy dealer and included in the box was a 20 amp fuse. The paper insert said to remove the fuel pump fuse and replace it with the included fuse. I could not find a fuse labeled "fuel pump" but I located the one that was in the image on the insert. I was labeled "ECM B", I believe. I took it out and replaced it with the fuse that was included. Did I replace the wrong fuse? Why would they want you to replace a fuse with the same amp rating? I also replaced the filter. The truck is running pretty well. It still hesitates a little. I'm hoping that the sensors just need to reset since I had the battery disconnected for so long. Let me know about the fuse thing if you have an idea. Thanks.

You got the right one.
EMC-B fuse powers the fuel pump and PCM/VCM.

But why they would want it replaced is a I do not know.
They may be going on the they idea that a bad fuel pump could damage the old fuse or they just had some bad fuses.
Just a idea. But there must be a good reason for it for them to give you a new fuse.

GM came out with a recall in 2005 for the 2000-2001 Suburban/Yukon XL models. The problem was the fuel pump connector terminals would over heat, melt and cause the pump to stop running, some also blew the ECM-B fuse. Look at the old pump on the top where the wiring harness connected, make sure it doesn't look melted, if so I can get you the updated harness kit part number to purchase from the dealer to upgrade the connector to beefier terminals. GM uses the same pump assembly in the Silverado, so they include the parts not knowing what vehicle it will come into service with. Did it also include the harness pigtail? Not to cause concern, but the same problem with the Suburban can happen in the Tahoe and Silverado vehicles, because they have the same harness. Hope this helps. The recall number is 05027A

The pigtail was included. I couldn't figure out why GM changed the terminal on the new pump. It added a few minutes to the job since it had to be spliced in, but it wasn't bad. They also included the necessary connectors. The truck is running good now that the sensors have re-adjusted and the SES light has gone off.
