91 mercury Capri problem

I have a 1991 Capri that keeps cutting out after about 5 minutes. It cranks but wont start. I've replaced the plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. After it sits for a while it will start back up again but then cuts out.

Help??? anyone

Re: 91 mercury Capri problem

Perform a fuel pressure test on it. I had a 1992 XR2 that did that.

Re: 91 mercury Capri problem

I have the same problem with a 92 by chance did you figure out what the problem was -- I could use the help there is fuel coming out of the line when you try to crank it over and during the period it wont start there is not any spark at the plug wires but there is power at the coil "incoming side" new coil -plugs-cap- button- wires-----stumped

TTROLL...I have a 1993 capri, 1.6 non-torbo. Same problem. I have changed the external coil twice with new and still no spark. Techs from local garages and the FORD garage say that the problem is with the ignition control module or the pick-up coil inside the distributor. The module is a few hundred bucks and the pick-up is another fifty. I'm trying to get more info on troubleshooting this before I invest the money. Any help from you in troubleshooting would be appreciated. Help?

Re: 91 mercury Capri problem

Check the wiring harness to the distributor. I had the same problem with my 1991 capri xr2, and thats all the problem ended up being. Does your check engine light come on when the car wont start?
