Myself, I like and use the LG VX8600. I do not use the MP3 portion, and it has a pretty nice camera for a phone. It seems to take the abuse, has been dropped, rides in my pocket it, and still works fine. It is pretty slim, lightweight, and functional. The main problem with the phone is the shiny surface. I would recommend a clear cover, from companies like shieldzone, etc if that phone were used.

Re: Verizon Phones

i've been using Nokias for a long time. i've has Siemens, Samsung and something else too, but of all the phones i've used (the ones i've owned, and other peoples') Nokias are the easiest to use, most durable and overall the best.

i have a 6230i, and i couldn't ask for more. it has everything you need.

Re: Verizon Phones

Any LG phone it amazing. The one I had took one hell of a beating. I finally dropped it one too many times when it was open. It broke the latch and hung on by wires. Still worked flawlessly for the next 3 months I had it. My friend has dropped his in his dogs water bowl 3 times, one it had been in there for 15 minutes. He said he took it out. Dried it off and aired it out. Powered right up.

Moto phones are, eh, okay. They're software is so slow. I still don't know why they can't make a decent interface. But i haven't had any problems.

My dads been with Verizon since they were GTE. So I have been with them since I was 16. Always had service where others haven't. Probably won't leave.

Re: Verizon Phones

Another vote for LG. My last phone was a VX6100 and after two years that thing was still mint, even after taking some abuse. Now I have a damn RAZR v3c and the thing is def. not fragile IMO, it can take some drops and abuse from the feel of it. I just don't like the interface either. It will randomly change my settings back to defaults for no reason. The camera is also not that great on the RAZR, pictures are pretty grainy.

Re: Verizon Phones

Ok thanks for the advice guys! Guess I'm going to be doing some reading at theat HowardForums place, I won't be deciding for a little while anyways...

Are the LG phones' menus easy to navigate? That's one thing I like about my Nextel is how easy it is to use...

Re: Verizon Phones

Definitely stay far away from the chocolate. My roomate's chocolate broke recently. Worked great for a while and recently the screen does not work nor the touch, eh, "buttons" work either. Other owners say the sliding gets annoying after a while also.

I thought so. The learning curve was only a few minutes.

Re: Verizon Phones

if you're signing a new contract I'd just go for whatever phones they give you for free. probably an LG. good phones, easy to use and the best part... they're free.

Re: Verizon Phones

i myself have the LG chocolate. it's cool, but i fat finger things all the time. plus the surface gets easily scratched. Many of my friends have the Razr and they call it the "me too phone". "Oh you have a razr, me too". My sister has the LG VX8300. I REALLY like this phone. it's durable and has a decent camera.

i think of phones sort of like car audio stuff. you have to go into the store and play with the things you are thinking about to see which you will like.

Re: Verizon Phones

I'm probably the only one, but I prefer to not give into Verizon. The front-runners where I live are Verizon and Alltel. I've not had Verizon, but from the looks of it, you don't get many minutes for your money. With Alltel I got 1000 Nationwide minutes for $39.99. Last time I checked you only got like 500 Verizon minutes for that price. I have a Motorola E815 phone and love it. It is very customizeable (is that a word?) and seems to be versatile.

If you stick to major metropolitan areas, major highways and roads, then a service like that is fine.

Alltel, T-Mobil, US Cell, and even cingular all suck for boonyville coverage. This is pretty much the only reason I use Verizon. My work cell is Cingular, and I can be in BFE nowhere, and my VZW phone has coverage, and the cingular? Forget about it.

Re: Verizon Phones

BFE...lol. I thought that was a term that only people in Southern Illinois used. People in the south and up north won't know what the hell that means!

I actually just got back from BFE and had decent service from Alltel. I'll have to get a friend [who has Verizon] and do a "side by side" test in different areas to see which gets better service. Could be interesting

We usually say spreadeagle, WI, or bucky beaver falls, MT.

Anyway, Verizon has the most comprehensive coverage for the areas we generally travel, up here in rural PA. The LG phones seem to hold up OK. We go with the phones that are free.
