87 Accord Cigarette Lighter - No Power!

I have an 87 Accord LX with 310,000 miles on it and it runs great. Recently, my cigarette lighter/adaptor lost power and no longer works. I don't smoke (and never have) but I use the cigarette lighter/adaptor for charging my cell phone. Took it to a local mechanic and he ran some tests and replaced a fuse under the hood. I tested it when I went to pick it up, and it did not work again.

So, he replaced the fuse under the hood again and said "don't use it till Monday, and then drive by and I will check it for you, as it may be blowing and blowing something else out." He really wasn't sure. He is a very good mechanic, but he does not specialize in Hondas. Is it better to get a Honda mechanic to look at this?

It isn't urgent, but it would be nice to be able to charge my phone and I also use the cigarette lighter for my aromatherapy plug-in.

Thanks Honda owners for all your help! I hope it is something that can be fixed without costing thousands of dollars!

Re: 87 Accord Cigarette Lighter - No Power!

My standard smart-ass answer to these problems:

Replace the fuse with a nail...whatever catches fire and burns up, that was your problem. Replace that item.

Seriously, you need a manual (your owner's manual might have it if you have one) that shows all the items protected by that fuse, and you just eliminate them one by one by unplugging them, until you find the one causing it, then fix that item.

Usually clocks, glovebox lights, other minor stuff like that are included in the lighter fuse circuit, usually nothing critical, since the lighter is prone to blowing fuses anyway...

notice anything else that doesn't work?

No, I have not noticed anything else not working. Just the cigarette lighter. I will keep looking, however.

Thanks alot for that manual. I am not a techie, but maybe my brother can help me.

Cheers!
