Sythetic oil?

I just got my oil changed with Amsoil 10W30 Synthetic and I was wondering how long that should last before I would need to get it changed again? Now of course not factoring the countless variables. The have it down where it will last like 7000 or 8000 miles. I thought that was high. But I paid a damn 53 bucks for this change so I want my moneys worth. Thanks.

Re: Sythetic oil?

Just change the filter at 4000 miles and if your oil level is still fine, let it be, or add if you have to, then change everything at 8000. I do that with my Royal Purple 10w-30 because that shit is like $7.50/quart and is supposed to last 12000 miles or so...i change the filter at 5k and the whole thing at 10k (which doesn't happen often....lol) Also i changed it before i stored it for the winter and now once i get a few hundred miles on this oil, i'm going to change it again....

Re: Sythetic oil?

I use regular oil....what would be the advantage you would notice switching over to synthetic? I would be getting Mobil 1 10W30 , thanks!

We just finally started carrying Royal Purple at my work... I'm soo happy.

I get 5w30 for $6.09 after tax. ... I pretty much work where i do just for my discount on my car goodies.

for 99.9% of cars out there, you wouldn't really get any kind of gain. I have to run it in my GSR because Honda specifies that only a Honda grade or equivalent synthetic is run...also STC (the company that built my turbo) told me that i have to run a high grade synthetic oil in order to properly lubricate and cool the turbo.

Close tolerance engines need high performance oils, regular engines just burn it because its too thin....just wasting money at that point

How long do you intend to keep your engine? If you plan to "drive it into the dirt" then synthetic may be a good choice. If you plan to trade/sell it off at 100K or so miles, it may not matter.

I run PAO synthetics in everything from my lawnmowers to my vehicles. The only problems I've had were in the two-stroke snowmobiles and outboard. The synthetic seemed to create more ash and foul the plugs faster, but that's an entirely different game. All the transmissions, axles, and even the suspension (grease) get synthetics. I only use mineral oil for flushing and break-ins.

And it doesn't have to be ridiculously expensive. I get five-quart jugs of Mobil 1 for about $22. Add a good filter and the change is well under $30. With only one change per year on most of my vehicles, I can't complain about the cost. The personal empirical evidence I have gathered on reduced wear would only bore you, so I'll spare you.
