2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
Needless to say, I had a motor rebuilt for me and requested it to be a direct bolt up to a 97 eclipse gsx. I went to pick it up today after waiting a month for it and there was a nice shinny 6 bolt motor waiting for me. Well, besides the fact I know about the crankwalk on a 7 bolt, I just wanted a simple replacement.
I agreed to take the motor and discussed the changes, will be getting the necessary parts free of charge, since it was not my mistake. The block and head are both from a 92 eclipse. The obvious change would be the 6 bolt flywheel but what other parts must be changed or altered for it to fit correctly.

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
I think he wants a list of all the parts needed to do the swap.

From what I had been informed of, the water pipe, water pump, flywheel, oil filter, oil filter housing, CAS, and thermostat housing are different. Also some grinding on the mount may have to be done. I was just attempting to see if there are other changes or parts I may have to go and buy or swap out also. I guess I may find out on my own as I piece this jigsaw back together, but it would be nice if I got some heads up. Thanks

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
Check out my project thread listed in my sig... I have pictures and information of the things that are needed to put the 6 bolt into a 2g... I am almost done with the project too so you will find "most" of the info there... I am just getting to wiring everything up now, so I haven't listed any electrical changes yet.
**EDIT** Most of the info geared towards the differences are on the last few pages of the thread... I gotta get a cleaner version of that thread put together as a write-up when the entire project is finished.

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
are the flywheel bolts exactly the same with a 6 bolt and 7 bolt, as in size

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
just wondering, ive already tried that, but i was wondering if the length of them was longer in the 6 bolt style. I put one in all the way and it seems like there the hole is about 4mm deeper than the lenght of the bolt, though they are the same thread and width. I dont remember if my 7 bolt had the same gap.

The hole is 4mm deeper than the bolt? That sounds about perfect to me.

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
ive came across some other differences though, mainly with the timing side. of course, i still have a 2g tensioner and tensioner arm. The tensioner is the 97 up version where it has a single bolt on each side, so I need the other one. I was also told the arm could still be used, if you shave some of the water pump... sounds risky though. could the arm be trimmed to fit? I know the tensioner isn't adjustable in height like it is on the 420a motor. is the arm on the 1G a different lenght?
