Trunk lock gasket

How do you remove the caprice emblem that covers the trunk lock and how do you remove the lock itself to replace the ruber gasket behind it. it looks like kind of a big task but im willing to do it because i think water is getting in through there, everytime i open the trunk after a good rain i always see water droping from inside the trunk lid when its raised. ive inspected everywhere else on the trunk lid and its solid and sealed, this has to be the only place where water is getting in, the lock gasket looks like its not sitting around the lock right either. any info would be great.

Re: Trunk lock gasket

Mike: if i remember right i drilled out the riviet that holds the key cover on. you will see it when you open the cover to put in the key. to reinstall we used a sheet metal screw to hold it on. gm may have the right rivet and gasket. that was in 1991 and it's still good. i think its getting close to pulling my caprice out of storage and spiffing her up for the summer. you may save some time by using silicone to seal the leak from the inside of the trunk.
