I own a 2000 VW Jetta and just resently my Catalytic converter went bad, not yet replaced, and now the check engine light turned on and is giving me the P1582 (Malfunction Vehicle speed control) code. I have cleaned the throttle body and also replaced a bad hose, cleared the code and it came back.
What I need to know now is can a bad Catalytic convert cause the P1582 code. |

Re: P1582 Code and Catalytic Coverter
If there is a rattle from under the car when slowly revving from an idle than the cat is most likely the cause. The material inside breaks up and rattles arround in the exhaust.

Re: P1582 Code and Catalytic Coverter
Yup it was the Catalytic that was causing the P1582 code> Chnaged it, turned on the Check Engine light, and the car runs great now.
