Angry 1 quart over filled in engine

1999 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.6L Engine
Had the oil changed 3500 miles ago at CaRX. Didn't check their work right after, but did today. Turns out it is about right at 1 quart over-filled and I make this assessment by measuring the distance between the Low-Full line on the stick. It is exactly that same distance HIGHER than the FULL line on the stick. I'm pretty sure thats 1 full quart too much?

Would this condition cause upper valve gasket to leak? Cause there is oil coming out of all sides of the valve gasket. The Auto Service Center's strike again for not paying attention. I bet they ASSumed I had the 2.0L engine.

Re: 1 quart over filled in engine

It would make the engine run a little sloppier, but it shouldn't cause any leaks that weren't there before.

I would, but we don't have a concrete driveway yet.

SR20? I'm assuming that model number means 2.0L engine WHICH I DO NOT HAVE. I have the 1.6L engine. How many quarts go in there?

Re: 1 quart over filled in engine

Jack up your car and put a drain pan under the oil pan, stick an empty one quart oil container in the drain pan with a little funnel on top of it, loosen your drain plug until the oil just starts to leak, wait until the oil container is full then tighten the plug. Then then check your oil level again, keep doing this until the oil level is where it should be.

If your gasket still leaks they could have used a lighter weight oil than what you had in there before, or a non-synthetic if you were using synthetic.

I KNOW. I DIDNT SAY YOU DID. I SAID THEY COULDNT HAVE OVERFILLED IT THINKING IT WAS AN SR20 BECAUSE THEY TAKE THE SAME AMOUNT OF OIL!!!!

Re: 1 quart over filled in engine

People, please...

It doesn't matter how it got over filled, or what size engine it is/was, the fact of the matter is that it DID get over filled which is a problem that needs to be corrected.

Well besides the FECES thats a good point and adds ammo to my intelligence arsenal for when I go over there cause now this just makes them look even more stupid and ignorant for not even checking the quarts at all.

Question Re: 1 quart over filled in engine

BTW - Whenever I get them to replace the valve cover seal would it be DUMB to high temp RTV (gasket maker) both sides of the new gasket they put on there? or would you only RTV if you weren't using a rubber gasket?

Re: 1 quart over filled in engine

you dont need rtv. maybe put a few dabs on to help the gasket stay in place during installation.
