I have a 98 Chevy Malibu. Last night, I went to a friends house, and on the way, smelled some awful burning smell. It eventually went away, but my blower wasn't working. So today I take a look and find the blower motor resistor card burned in half. I notice there is ice hanging from the connector to the resistor. Don't know how water got up there. I then take the blower motor off and a little water dumps out and there is ice around it between the moving part and the motor. I take it inside and let it melt and dry. I replaced the resistor and plug the blower back in. Now, the blower is still not moving. I take the power connector off from the motor and take a voltage reading from the front side and back side of the connector (if it makes a difference). There is about 18 volts coming through on the setting I have the blower on. I then hooked the blower motor up to a 6v battery and it starts spinning so that is working. I recheck the voltage and there is still a reading on the connector. I plugged the motor back in and it still doesn't spin. I take a voltage reading and it reads 0.0, so I unplug it again and the connector again reads 18v again. It seems when I plug the connector into the motor, there isn't any voltage reading, but with it unplugged, it reads 18v.

Re: Blower Motor not working
That's weird.
I don't know how to make sense of your voltage readings at the motor connection, but I can suggest you check both fuses for the blower motor circuit. one [10A?] Passenger side I/P junction [HVAC Blower] one [30A?] Underhood junction [Blower motor high] -Mark T. |

Re: Blower Motor not working
Go to Advance Auto Parts buy a blower resistor caRd for the malibu, i bought one myself cost me about $20 . The water on your car may be coming from the air conditioner condenser, so if the card burns again , check your A/C system.

Re: Blower Motor not working
could be a short
Malibu's have too many problems, my gf has 1. The Fan switch has to be replaced. Its not the resistor I already checked it. The fuel pressure reg. is also leaking and needs a head gasket job. Its a 2002 with less than 80,000 miles on it. WTF?
