Hello! Well, I work at 11am and its currently 10:20, but I just had something pop into my head and I thought I'd just ask you capable regulars here. Well, for my birthday last year, my parents surprised me with something huge. Well, it was partially because I also finished a bachelor's degree in nanoscience too, but anyways that's not important :P. They got me an appointment to get some rear speakers and an amp installed at Circuit City, along with a new deck + ipod adapter. The amp is from MTX and the model number is TA3202, the rear speakers are Polk DB690 6x9s (or is that 960? I can't remember) and the deck is a Pioneer DEH-5800MP. I recently replaced the 3.5" dash speakers with Infinity Reference series ones, and everything sounds just awesome. The sound those little dash speakers produce surprised me quite a bit as well.
However startlingly good the lower notes are out of the rear speakers, it just isn't the same as having a good sub and lacks in certain types of music. I just had an idea about maybe using part of my refund (I don't have an amount yet since i'm not finished in turbotax, but it will probably be at least $200) to change things up a bit. I am up to speed on the details, but I can't say I have the experience with amps and subs that you guys have, and just because I understand what I am reading doesn't mean I am any kind of expert on it .I was wondering if it is possible to maybe change things so the speakers are just using the regular connectors and the amp goes to the sub, or is that not wise? I wouldn't be going for some massive subwoofer, just one that is decent and fills the void. I believe that amp is a 2 channel, 200W model from that company. If I get a larger than expected refund, maybe I could always get a sub plus a proper amp for it and just replace the current amplifier, or whatever is easier that i'm not thinking of. I'm also not sure of what gauge wire they used for the power, but I suppose I could go and ask that Circuit City roadshop that installed it. I'm not totally bent on this, just contemplating the feasibility of it all. Oh yeah, the car is a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera S that is in fantastic shape, especially after replacing the shocks, struts, ball joints and fading tires . Its no big deal and i'm sorry for writing so much here, but I just had to ask. I read the info in the posting at the top and i've had people suggest things to me before, but they always say to get a massive, huge sub for that mid-sized car. That is definitely NOT what I want to do :P. Anyways, hope you guys have a good easter!Scott |

Re: Question about possible sub addition
I got a similar car, '90 Buick century, with 2 12 inch rockfords, sounds decent in that car, I wouldn't go huge subs either. For a single sub, Infinity is decent, A friend has a 1000 watt max (250 watts rms) Infinity reference dual voice coil sub and it sounds good with a 520 watt amp (overrated tho). He got both for round $200 - $250 I think.
