I'm in Illinois and its been fairly decent with temps lately. After a long spurt (not sure if the weather has a part in this or not) of 50's and 60's temps I refueled to a completely full tank of gas. Of course I put in 87 Octane cheapest due to gas prices and the van isn't a hot sports car. Anyway, I'm not even sure its the gas, but theorizing that I may have gotten bad gas cause it tries to stall bogging down almost completely and goes back up to normal idle and immediately bogs down again almost to stall and it keeps doing this cycle until I rev the engine as high as I can and let completely off the accelerator. After this the problem goes away completely for the remainder of this drive session, but every time thereafter when I restart the van this all happens all over again. Thinking it was maybe bad gas I bought 2 cans of chemtool cleaner from Wal-mart Auto and poured them in and its been sitting for a couple days now not started. I'm about to go start it again and drive it and see what it does. Any ideas? IAC (ISC) motor? Anybody else with this and it was a common culprit?

Re: Engine bogging down and trying to stall on startup
This seems to be similar to my problem. See "2000 Windstar Chugging at idle." Unfortunately my bouncing idle doesn't seem to ever go away completely, but it does get better.
I'm still waiting for an answer too. Guess I'll just keep watching both posts. What year is yours? Did you do any recent repairs? |

Sorry I didn't post the specs of the van before:
1995 Ford Windstar GL 3.8L engine FYI - The chemtool stuff (very similar to SeaFoam I believe) I put in may have licked the problem. I put a full 2 cans in cause the engine is old old and high mileage. It was slightly more than required for my 25 gallon tank, but I knew it wouldn't hurt to have a lil more in there. Still I'm not sure if this has fixed the problem or not cause we're back to 32 degree temps and the idle problem occurred in the 50's 60's temps. JWags60 - You might try 2 cans of Chemtool from Walmart Auto or 2 cans of Seafoam from one of the common AutoParts stores. See if this helps you. I let the van sit 2 or 3 days before using it again after pouring the cans in if that makes any difference. BUMP |

Re: Engine bogging down and trying to stall on startup
I would use the Berryman's B12 Chemtool, it is a solvent type of cleaner.
