cracked windshield

Hi, over the winter during heavy snowfall, a tree branch landed on my windshield, and i was wondering if anyone knew how much it would cost for another windshield for a 1994 chevy lumina.
And also would it be possible to put in a used windshield?
thanks-- opcorn:
And would it still be possible to drive the car without getting a ticket for the window being cracked?

Re: cracked windshield

Triumph glass, new, about 185 installed. Depending on regs, you may fail inspection or have violation.

Re: cracked windshield

I believe you could use a used window. They sell for around $25 where I go. I'm shocked that where I live [illinois] I never hear about these inspections. Do most other states have them? I figured that Illinois would, as anal as they are about everything else!!

Re: cracked windshield

Although inspections would be a hassle, I wish Michigan would start them. I see so many cars that are not only environmental disasters (oil burning coolant leaking, etc...) but actually scary to drive around. I saw a Ford Taurus that the frame was so whopped out, from behind, you could see a gap between the inside of the rear tire and the outside of the front tire (the frame was bent 8 or 9 inches sideways). Some cars should not be allowed on the road!!
