Fuel pump harness

We ran our 96 Sunfire out of gas(long story)and now it won't start at all.We put 3/4 of a tank back in after getting it towed home and now it's not getting fuel .I changed the relay in the engine panel and checked the fuses in the interior fuse panel.Does the fuel pump wiring harness have a fusible link?I am going to change the harness and filter anyway and if all else fails the pump assembly is next. The price is crazy and have done in-tank pumps on other vehicles so I know what to expect.Thinking maybe the harness, any thoughts?

Does the pump prime when you first turn the key to "on" without trying to start it? Did you try swapping the A/C relay with the pump relay?

You should hear the pump prime for 3 seconds minimum. If not, you might have burnt up the pump. The '96s have the pump inside a cannister that holds about a quart of gas to keep it cool at all times, including low fuel situations.

I doubt if it's a harness problem, as the pump I got at Advance Auto parts had the harness as part of the pump assembly (about 3 ft long). It's physically the same as a GM pump.
