Hello I was replacing a factory radio in my 96 tahoe and as I was wrapping things up when I broke the hazard(flasher) button off the steering column trying to pop the dash back in place. Need help , when the button broke off the hazard lights stayed in the on position. Ive tried to turn them off with all kinds of other objects but didnt work so i had to just jamm a piece of cardboard with the broken button to get the flashers to stay off if i remove the cardboard the flasher will immediately turn back on. I was told i would have purchase a 200 dollar part is this true??? I would appreciate any help I can get Thanks

Re: Broken Hazard(flasher)button
The 4 way switch is made in the turn signal /multifunction switch.
Yes you will have too replace the hole switch. Check around you may find one in the hundred dollar bracket. Local parts place and GM parts direct and some other on line places. Good luck MT

Re: Broken Hazard(flasher)button
Back a few years ago, GM came out with a recall for the S10 and Astro vans for brake lights not working. Part of the recall was to inspect the hazard switch you are talking about. GM has made the hazard switch available, but you have to mention this recall to get the part. It will fit the multifunction switch on all GM trucks, but if you tell the parts you have a Tahoe, they will sell you the whole switch. You will have to purchase the switch, but it should be less than $30. I can post the recall number and switch part numbers when I go to work tomorrow if you want. But, if you find a GM parts person that has been around for a while, they should remember the recall. It was in 2001. Hope this helps

Re: Broken Hazard(flasher)button
ok, here's what I found. The recall number is 01073. It covered all of the 2000 to 2001 S & T blazers. The part numbers for the hazard switch are: 15174447 (retails for $16.23) & 15177379 (retails for $18.42). In the recall repair instructions, you have to look for the bar code on the top of the turn signal (multifunction) switch. If the number is 26083635, 26083636, or there is no bar code use the 15174447 hazard switch. If the barcode number is 26090641, 26090642, 26096832, or 26096833 use the other hazard switch (15177379). Now keep in mind these swith numbers are suppose to be for the S & T trucks, but the hazard switches will fit. If the part number listed above helps direct you to a specific switch, use it. Hope this helps.
