EGR removal?
i was on a site and it said that removing the EGR causes your engine to heat up?! it said the egr prevents a little combustion so that it doesnt heat up as much... anyone know anything about this?

Re: EGR removal?
I could see that as being true. EGR displaces some air in the combustion chamber for a comparatively smaller combustion process. So, replacing that exhaust with more air (and fuel) would yield a better/bigger combustion process. I can't see it making that big of a difference as far as heat though. The EGR shuts off at WOT anyways so it wouldn't be any hotter/cooler there either.

Re: EGR removal?
The EGR is your friend, unless it's broken, then I'd suggest leaving it alone. But it's up to you. If you're really curious, try taking it off for a while to see if there's any noticeable difference.
Some insight: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EGR_valve

Re: EGR removal?
I do believe without some flinagleing (tuning otherwise) of the PCM, you are going to have some issues.

Re: EGR removal?
if you replace the exhast with long/short tubes and a new system, doesn't that remove the EGR system?

Re: EGR removal?
I'm deleting mine when I get my stuff from Formula. I already have the blockoff plates, I just need to get to the header provision. Its a tight spot back there...

Re: EGR removal?
EGR deleat on an OBD II is a little bit more involved than on OBD I. You'd have to send your PCM out to have it reprogrammed (or invest in an expensive programmer). If you just remove the EGR you'll get the SES followed by reduced ignition timong and a loss of power.
EGR is actually a GOOD thing to have on a modern engine. It started out as a pollution control but car mfg's soon found out that it had an even better use..cooling the combustion chambers to combat detonation. If you modify an engine and deleat EGR you'll probably end up with pinging, and without EGR, no easy way to stop it. |

Re: EGR removal?
Eh...I'm not worried, he's tuning it for me and I'm running a cooler t-stat. But you're right, its an OBDI car.
