Deleted volume controls?

I was using my sister's computer and we both noticed it was running really slow so she asked me to run Disk Cleanup and Defrag. Well after doing that and restarting the laptop, because of Windows updates, the volume controls were gone. I can't find them in the start menu or on the task bar at bottom of screen. Any ideas on how to retrieve or re-install?

Sound still works, just can't adjust it.

Re: Deleted volume controls?

Open the Control Panel and double-click the Sounds icon. There's a checkbox to "Show volume control in the taskbar".

Yea it said, "Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Control program has not been installed. To install it, use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel."
...but it does allow me to adjust the volume from there, so thats good enough, I guess.

That's interesting...I wasn't able to find anywhere in the Add/Remove Windows components in regards to volume control. Updating the sound driver might help you though.

Re: Deleted volume controls?

Try a system restore, otherwise you'll probably have to boot from your XP CD and do a repair install.

Re: Deleted volume controls?

i actually have the same problem. there's no volume control on the taskbar. I've got some touch-keys on the keyboard, but sometimes they don't work. I went to Sounds menu and it says that I have no audio device, no playback or recording devices. I hate HP
