4 wheel drive

I have a 1988 suburban 4wd with a 350 and 700r4 trany. i heard once from a friend that when he put his truck into 4wd after a long time of not using it that it messed up his transmission bad i was just wondering if this is possible and what i can do before i transfer into 4wd to keep this from happening.

Also what exactly the procedures are for shifting into 4wd

Re: 4 wheel drive

If transfer case and linkage is good it will not hurt it.
But always have transfer case oil level check when it is serviced.
Some floor shift linkage have to be cleaned or lubed or adjusted to work right.
To shift into or out of 4 wheel .
Stop truck and put transmission in neutral to shift into 4W or out of 4W and if it does not go in or out good back up and roll forward a little.
