no acceleration lots of backfireing
i just bought a 1989 cherokee 4.0 5 speed... when i first test drove it the ride was ok but after i bought it and put gas in it it has started to seem like a bad buy... when i take off or even just put my foot on the clutch and let go it starts backfiring and boging down... it really pops when i shift but only from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd then it stops... it also shakes really bad if anyone can help it would be greatly appreated i really like this jeep and i need to run now that i have paid so much for it... thanks

Get some Drigas, or gas treatment to remove water. It sounds like you may have gotten some bad gas.
If that doesn't work, try plugs, cap and rotor. Report back and let us know.
