I just bought my '97 Z28 convertable A4 a few weeks ago. It's spent most of the time in the shop for touch ups. I haven't added a whole lot to it yet. I have used the HPP3 on it but did not change the shift points...no idea were to adjust them to.
I have never raced an automatic and I'm not sure how to get the fastest start. :help:

Shift Points?
Any suggestions on setting shift points (rpm or speed)?

dont really need shift points changed... unless you want to be lazy and leave it in Drive.
shift it yourself, start off in Low... and upshift when you hit say... 5400rpm. keep doing that till you past the 1/4mile marker. hopefully you win! I would suggest in getting some sort of Shift kit for your car though, this will make the shifts more 'firm' and quicker.

Since 94 the A4 transmissions in F-body's is a 4L60E, (basically an updated 700R4 that is electronically shifted by the computer.) Even if you start in first gear and push it into second befor redline, at full throttle it will not shift till redline. So just put it in Drive, and stall the converter to 1,100 rpm's. On the green light nail it.
As for adjusting shift points, you have to play with it to find the best shift point for your car. It all depends on your mods as to where to set them at. Adjust them 100rpm's at a time. I ran a 14.00@101 in my '97 Z28 Convertible A4, all stock. Good luck! |

.
I wouldn't think leaving it in Drive and flooring it would be any challenge nor any fun.

There is not other way to do it with an electronically controlled tranny. But hey, you will more constant in the 1/4 than a M6, and you won't burn cluches and blow up crappy 10 bolt rear ends on slicks.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! The damn track that I was going to race at was closed
I think it's closed for the winter Oh well. This will just give time to do a few more mods before it opens. I'm probably put a new exhaust (either Flowmaster or SLP's Loudmouth) and was thinking about B&M LCA's and a shock tower brace. As far as the shift kit goes, when I reprogrammed the computer it made a noticable change in the firmness.

Get the Loud Mouth exhaust, it sounds great. But take the shift programming off, all it does is up the line pressure through parts that were not designed for it. You will hurt that tranny with the shift improvement programming. Get the TransGo shift kit, it is one of the best ones for the 4L60E.

Thanks again. Is the SLP Loudmouth exhaust much louder than the Flowmaster? The reason I ask is that I have two young children and I don't want it to be uncomfortably loud for them. I drive very responsibly with them in the vehicle so under normal driving is what I'm concerned with.
