98 tahoe surges, running really rough!
I have a 98 tahoe with 128,000 miles and I have recently had the tranny rebuilt, replaced the fuel pressure regulator along with the leaky intake gaskets and also replace the starter. I noticed that it started running rough after the intake gaskets and the fuel pressure regulator was replaced. The SES light also came on after this. I took it to Autozone and they scanned it for me and the code P1345 (cam position sensor circuit malfunction) came up. took it to the mechanic and said everything looked fine and it didn't need anything replaced. The truck will drive rough in the morning when i go to work and will do this untill it warms up after driving it for a while. it will also turn off on me sometimes when i turn it on and i have to start it up again. Anyone have this problem? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

Re: 98 tahoe surges, running really rough!
If it was the mechanic who changed the intake gaskets, tell him the P1345 means he didn't get the distributor back in correctly. P1345 is CKP/CMP corellation error. According to the GM service manual when you remove the intake, to reinstall the distributor afterwards you have to get the engine to tdc on the compression stroke of cylinder #1, then align a mark on the distributor gear to a white line on the distributor housing(mark on dist gear is above or below the pin that hold it on the shaft). Then you look down the hole the distributor goes into to see if the oil pump gear indent is in the correct position(may have to adjust with a long regular screwdriver). When the distributor is placed the rotor should point to a pointer on the inside edge of the housing with a 6 or an 8 on it(points to 6 on a V6 and 8 on the V8). Once this is done you start the engine with a scantool hooked up to monitor the cam retard(or camshaft offset) and the value on the scantool should be 0 degrees +/- 2 degrees on the v8(have to rev engine over 1500 rpms for the cam retard value to update or be accurate). If this value is too negative, you need to turn the distributor counterclockwise, or if its positive-clockwise. If you can't turn the distributor enough to get 0, the distributor is a tooth off and must be taken out and realigned with the engine

As
Jeremy-WI said. The dist camshaft retard setting needs ckecked /or set. Find a mechanic that knows what he is doing. Here is a link to a picture of setting the dist. http://files.automotiveforums.com/ga...hp?photo=51302

MT2500, you don't happen to have a picture of the indent on the distributor gear and the white line on the housing
Found one http://www.justanswer.com/view_image...4_4.3_pic2.gif It's what #3 is pointing at |

The picture I posted is the way to set the dist.

So, what's the verdict? Don't go and fix it with no response. My guess is it's fixed.
