V8 conversion

i just dropped a 400 out of a 74 grand am into an 83 grand prix, and was wondering if anyone else had had probelms getting it all to fin unter the hood. currently it looks like my alternator is gonna be sticking out of the hood! i might be forced to add a scoop for the carb/air cleaner, but one for the alternator seems rediculous... HELP

Re: V8 conversion

You may have the mounts attached in the wrong place on the frame. Indian Adventures (Foxboro, MA) has a "kit" to install the bigger Pontiac in the G-body. Headers, mounts and brackets. There are thousands out there without hood bulges or scoops. The end result will be well worth the effort, too. Easy way to get to the 11s with a mild engine. Watch the rear axle. Those little 7.5s can't take the power the big engine produces.

Re: V8 conversion

thanks for the input. It seems that i have been running into snags throughout the whole process. i have owned the car for almost 2 years now and finally have found the time and money to finish the project. I still might cut a scoop in the hood be that remains to be seen as my budget is somewhat of a small one(trying to graduate college and do all this is time consuming). Thanks again MRPbody you have been a great help
